SCV Brewmasters

From points distant and beyond we all converged on Petaluma in 1993 and '94 with an unenunciated desire to be more than we were before. The core of Lagunitas came from Chicago, St Louis, Memphis, Walker Creek, and the highlands of Quincy. The Lagunitas Brewing Co. was not so much an act of ordinary 'foundling' as it was willed into being by the unspoken desire of supportive beer-lovers in Northern California after which they continued to nurture their creation and urged us forward to fulfill the unifying needs of that same beer-loving diaspora from coast to coast and beyond. It is good to have friends!

We often look out over the mighty Columbia River and the snow-capped volcano peaks beyond, and up at the clear blue skies, and have to pinch ourselves for being so lucky to work in a magnificent place like Hood River, Oregon. It’s not hard to figure out what would attract us to this setting. Our love for the environment is what drives our sustainable practices, so pure water, local ingredients and responsible processes are poured into each and every tasty pint. Because Oregon is our home, we feel empowered to run the brewery in the most responsible manner every day. As much as we are committed to brewing great beers, we are also committed to our community. It would be impossible to live and work in the Columbia River Gorge and not be inspired by the sheer beauty of the place.
After developing a taste for beer in college, founder Jack White, along with his college roommate Pete A’Hearn, began home brewing in their apartment at UCLA. In 1992, Jack opened Home Brew Mart filled with Craft Beer Supplies while Pete went to UC Davis to get his master brewer’s certificate. They soon found a fellowhome brewer and collaborator and award winner in Yuseff Cherney, who quickly became a part of the team and opened a brewery behind the shop and in 1996, Ballast Point Brewing was born. The company has won numerous awards over the years several in 2015 such as Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards at the LA International Beer Competition.
Ken Grossman learned to homebrew from the father of a close friend. From an early age, he was enamored by the sights and smells of the fermenting jugs of bubbling beer, wine and sake. In 1976 Ken opened a homebrew supply store in downtown Chico, simply named The Home Brew Shop. As he and fellow home brewer Paul Camusi got more into the craft, Grossman’s brewing became more and more elaborate, and, soon enough, people were eager to sample his new brews. In 1979 Grossman began a new small-scale brewery based in Chico and took the name of hisfavorite hiking area in the nearby mountains, launching Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.Sierra Nevada has earned numerous brew awards over the years, as well as business and environmental recognition awards.

We are two bartenders from Venice Beach who love good beer. Venice Duck was inspired by a local legend of a guy who went to a party in the Venice canals and woke up the next day on the sidewalk covered with ducks. Venice Beach is an eccentric, circus like atmosphere thriving with life and energy. You can check out a live beach cam to see so yourself! Venice Beach is ranked as #80 in attractions in Los Angeles on Trip Advisor. There are many activities to do such as surfing, a skate park, Venice art walks, murals and so much more! We incorporate the Venice culture into our beers and truly believe in the power of the flock, our community. We like to say we are the” unofficial” sponsor of Venice events. We are part of the Venice Chamber of Commerce and participate in local events.
